Want to get more involved with your child's education?
Do you care about the quality of education in Lansing?
Have ideas, opinions or beliefs about learning?

Consider volunteering as a member of one of Lansing Central School
Shared Decision-Making Teams.

Parents are needed to serve on each of four committees at the elementary school, middle school, high
school and district level.
Each of the four teams is responsible for making decisions that affect the
educational process and include teachers, administrators, staff and parents.  Students are included at
the middle school, high school and district levels.

The parent volunteers must be willing to make a time commitment to their assigned committee.
This is estimated to be approximately four hours a month. It will also include additional time for an initial
orientation to the process.

Rewards for this responsibility are numerous.  You have the opportunity to improve the education offered at
Lansing as well as work with a group of dedicated Lansing employees. Consider the following statements from
parent members.

            • Working on the elementary school decision-making team has been a great opportunity
for me to learn about the elementary school and have a voice in the work that is done here.
I have found it a rewarding experience and encourage other parents to become part of
                    this success.

            •  As parent representatives to the Lansing Middle School Shared Decision-Making
Team during the past two years we have had the unique opportunity to:
                    •   Become more informed about the middle school including: curriculum, goals and
                              philosophy.
                    •   Work closely, in an atmosphere of mutual respect with teachers and administrators
to insure the best education possible for our children.
                    •   Serve as advocates for other parents.

            •  The experience has been valuable to each of us, and we encourage other to become
part of the decision making process and serve a term as a parent representative.

            •   The High School Shared Decision-Making Team has allowed me to be more actively involved
in my children's education.  I have found teachers, administrators and support staff dedicated
to the process.  Difficult issues have been met with openness and a commitment to discussion
                    of various options.

            •  If parents have an interest in maintaining and promoting the excellence in education our school
system provides they should seriously consider getting involved as a team member.
