i. Funding requests
1. Dawn Kleeschulte – High School Helpers Program – Is part of Lansing Youth Services and is in
charge of employment for HS students. Program is targeted for those with social and economically reasons, but
employs others, especially first time job seekers. Funding comes through many sources. Student workers are
actually Town employees and that budget has been reduced. County cut budget by 40%, and Town matches.
Last year, 2008-2009, total budget was $15,111 with 59 students working, being paid minimum wage of $7.25
for 5 hours max./week. Jobs are in schools (office, Tech, teachers, etc.), and at Lansing Library, Lansing Parks
& Recreation and bus garage, so students can take bus home. They did chicken BBQ fundraiser, spaghetti
dinner, and now need to also look for additional funding. Currently running $3,000 short and even have more
students working than in the past. They are looking for a one time contribution, but Mr. Hartz, HS Principal,
hopes to also look for grants to continue and perhaps expand and/or focus the program in the future. It was
noted that the HS in the past received $2,000 every other year for “D-Day” which has not happened in the past
3 years. Amy Boardman suggested that the item be tabled until she can check with Amy Anderson, Treasurer,
to determine how much funding has gone to the HS so far this year.
2. Tonya Reynolds is the Varsity Cheerleading Coach and is interested in helping students do
fundraising to get new uniforms. The old ones are 4 years old and unattractive, but replacement uniforms are
not budgeted till 2015. She wanted to check with PTSO and Boosters (who does not have any money to offer)
regarding merchandise sales. Tonya will provide more info at future meetings how PTSO might be able to help.
