Minutes from last meeting – one typo noted, minutes approved
Treasurer Report: (none)
Membership Report: (none)
PTSO Special Funding Committee Report – group met to make form for requests, stuffed into
mailboxes of all staff, deadline March 31, group meeting on 4-11-06 at 6:30pm before PTSO meeting.
Legal Tax Issues – Cathy Nelson (with Amy Anderson and Patti Dean) met with lawyer Guy Krogh
(working pro bono/donating time) to see what he recommends. The PTSO used to be called the Home
School Organization and it was a 501c3 organization. We changed our name but have no records
that it was ever changed with the IRS. We need to change the name with the IRS, prepare 7 years of
back tax forms, and request to not be penalized. The question of whether the PTSO should
incorporate will be examined after the other issues are resolved. We will be looking for an accountant
that will help us with our tax returns for free and Guy has offered to help us find one if necessary. The
other item mentioned by Guy was about our event forms and the need at add wording to protect us
from liability. Some new wording has been added to our upcoming bowling forms.
Banking – We will consolidate our two savings accounts into one. We also have a checking account.
Greek Peak Tubing – no formal report, Cathy gave an update regarding the event budget. We were
charged $15 per person by Greek Peak but charged participants less. We paid out $197 extra.
Decison/Outcome: We need to look at what we charge and budget at the April Planning & Budget
meeting.
5/6 Activity Night – Tricia Thomas reported that the turn out was good, but less then last time. 138
students attended, 11 CASS members came. We charged $1 per slice of pizza. The volunteer turn
out was good.
Elementary Book Fair – The book fair is coming up next week, Lisa Farr and Bridget Duthie reported
that volunteers are needed. There was a discussion regarding Buckley Bucks now being given out
upon request instead of giving each classroom a certain number for needy children.
Middle School Bookfair - taking place on March 21 & 22 (rescheduled from March 14 & 15 due to
Regents testing). This time just books are being sold; no stuff. Volunteers are coming together.
Bowling – no report
Spaghetti Dinner – 160 – 170 people attended. All the meatballs were given out. We made $330.
Note made that volunteers need to be better assigned, many volunteers at the beginning not many at
the end. We were told that only adults can serve hot food.
Decision/Outcome: We may want to look at the date since two other spaghetti dinners took place in
Lansing in the few weeks before and after. (The Sweetheart dinner that benefits the mission trip for
local churches, always takes place near Feb 14.)
7/8 Activity Night – Originally scheduled for April 7. The rink did not have us on their calendar, so
we are trying to reschedule. Tentative date is June 2. Please note, there is no mini-golf there any
longer.
5/6 Activity Night – Originally scheduled for May 19, but the rink did not have us on their calendar so
we are trying to reschedule. Possibly June 9 at Rink OR keep it May 19 at the school.
Decision/Outcome: Since May 19 is the day before the prom it was suggested that Susan Schuster be
removed from the 5/6 activity night planning. Tricia Thomas is willing to take that role.
AND** Please note, next year we need written confirmation from The Rink.
AND** Email to Brenda Mead, who gets chaperones, to give her an update on activity nights.
Meet the Candidates – May 9, 7pm, Format finalized once we know how many and who is running
Employee Appreciation Day – Donna Prybyl reported on the planning for this event taking place
May 16. She is interested in doing something different. We discussed the possibility of doing
something special for the cafeterias, maybe flower arrangements for them as well as food baskets.
Elementary May book fair – no report
Illusions Reception May 18 – no report
Project Prom – Anne Drake reported that letters for sponsoring couples are going out on Friday.
Elementary Art Show – Jessica Stratton reported that event is May 11, 6 – 8pm. She will need
volunteers again this year to help mount art and will have more opportunities for volunteers to work
from home. She does need a higher level volunteer this year to be co-coordinator this year and make
phone calls, etc.
She would also like to start a permanent gallery in the elementary school. The items would be
scanned so the art would not be kept. The items would be matted and framed and placed in the
hallways throughout the school. She is looking for a volunteer to help select the items.
Scrip Report – Tricia Thomas – she said project was going well. She hasn’t promoted the project
recently, but did very well during December and January. She will promote at end of school year.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 7 p.m. ~2006-2007 Budget & Planning Meeting~
