A. Welcome and Call to Order: Kay Thomas, President
B. Officers Reports:

4. President's Report:
-Requests: Camp Invention – Budgeted to give scholarship of up to $400 during the summer 2008.
-2nd grade Author Visit – Paula Thoma & Barbara Florence – Marilyn Farmer requesting $200 for authors to
visit the 2nd grade class to have presentation about book and do imagination exercises.
Motion to fund $200 toward author visit – PASSED.
-Janet Bruno, ES Speech, received $800 grant money for a speech program’s (Rhythmic Arts Project TRAP
program) percussion instruments, but needs an additional $300 to purchase the program itself.
Motion to fund up to $300 toward the purchase of this program – PASSED.
-Activity Night Fundraising – MS girls want to hold a bake sale fundraiser for the SPCA at the March 5th/6th
Activity Night. After discussion, it was decided that we were not comfortable having a “third party” handling this
aspect of Activity Night.
-Alcohol and Drug Commission – As a potential PIP (Parent Informed Project) information presentation, Talia
Epstein of the Alcohol & Drug Council peer education program has requested to do a program for parents on
how to start a discussion with your child about drug and alcohol use/abuse.
-Internet Safety – Kay will look
-Author Visit in May (luncheon) – Susan Roesencotter(sp) would like us to fund a luncheon for the author she
has invited, ____ Ritter.
C. Old Business
1. MS Book Fair, March 18, 19 7:15- 3:00 p.m. – Donna Prybyl and Karen Phlegar – Still need volunteers.
2. MS 5th/6th grade Activity Night, March 28th, 7- 9 p.m. @ HS - Coordinator Needed -
D. New Business
1. Changing Our Name – Cathy Nelson – Looking into officially changing our name from our 501c3 name of
Lansing Home School Organization (HSO) to the Lansing PTSO. Debbie Jordan, our account, said it was
E. FYI: Dates Ahead
1. April 25th, 7th & 8th grade Activity Night, 7-9 p.m. @ HS – Maureen Trowbridge – Beginning planning.
2. April 29th, Employee Appreciation Day – New date; not in May.
3. May 6th & 7th, ES Book Fair – Dorothy Debbie -
4. May 12th Meet the Candidates for BOE, 7:30 p.m. @ HS – There are 3 openings (Tom Keane, Bonita Lindberg,
Glenn Swanson).
5. May 16th, 5th & 6th grade Activity Night, 7-9 p.m. @ the Rink? – June Losurdo – Rink is renovating, so it is
uncertain if this activity night can be held at The Rink, otherwise it will be at the HS.
6. May and June – refreshments
7. After Prom Party, May 24th – Anne Drake – Party was held from 12-4am, but will be held only from 12-3am,
because students were tired by 3am, and will be held at the YMCA (since the Rink, last year’s location will be closed
for remodeling).

4. President's Report:
• Volunteers Needed for ES Math Nights on Feb. 28th for 3rd/4th game night
• Requests: Light Board for Auditorium – Bobbi Wasenko explained that the MS Auditorium light board is not
function and failed during the MS Musical Guys & Dolls this fall. The school has purchased a new light board with
funds from the CDC at a cost of $5250. Hoping that the cost of a professional installation can be split between
LTAPA and PTSO, Bobbi made a Motion: To fund up to $1500 towards the installation of the light board. – PASSED
C. Old Business
1. ES Book Fair, Jan. 29th & 30th - Katrina Overton and Kay Thomas – Sales of $3,960 resulted in a profit of about
$500, with giving ES Library $231, Teachers & Classes $249, and Buckley Bucks of $103. A teacher needing to
create a class library received vouchers to buy about $283 of books from the catalogue.
2. Spaghetti Supper, Feb. 1st - Dorothy Debbie – Date was rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 2nd due bad weather
cancelling Friday school. Was well attended with 132 meals served, which is down slightly (about 50 people) but
volunteers were still able to work. Expenses were slightly higher, but meatballs were donated by Anne Miller of King
Ferry Hotel. Profit was about $300 (event is considered a community event rather than a fundraiser).
3. Tubing at Greek Peak, Feb. 9th - Karie Allison and Diane Schafer – Karie reported that 69 signed up and only 3
weren't able to come. Everyone had a great time. Made about $150, though it's not money maker since we charge
at cost for PTSO members and only $2 more for non-members.
4. Cookie Dough Final Report - Amy Anderson, Anne Drake – Amy reported we paid $6,276, and had a profit of
about $6,140, which is more than last year.
D. New Business
1. MS Book Fair, March 18, 19 7:15-3:00 p.m. - Donna Prybyl and Karen Phelgar – Kay plans to talk to them about
having student make an application to be a student helper (which gives us more book credit). Mrs. Marcoux, MS
Guidance, will help determine which students might deserve book vouchers like ES has Buckley Bucks.
2. MS 5th/6th grade Activity Night, March 28th, 7-9 p.m. @ HS - Coordinator Needed - May consider using popcorn
popper in future events.

7. After Prom Party, May 24th - Anne Drake – Reported that The Rink will not be available due to field work, so the
committee will be looking at the YMCA. Prom is scheduled at Celebrations which is out by Caroline (30-40 min.
away). Parents are concerned about the drive, so Anne will be talking to the school about a bus.
Misc: -Last Math night was well attended and very enjoyed.
-Dr. Stephen Grimm attended. Dr. Grimm shared his background, emphasizing his belief that sports, arts, music, etc.
are important, not just test scores. In describing his experience he noted that in a past district of 14,000 student, the
goal was to structure students into groups of about 100 students, what research has said was ideal in order for
teachers to know and work with all students. This area of research was part of his dissertation work. The attraction
of our district is that we are already at that ideal size.
