Lansing Central Schools PTSO Meeting, October 11, 2005 (Approved 11/7/05)

Treasurers Report: Patti Dean (unavailable) reported by Cathy Nelson

Membership Report:   Lifetime 37, Five Year 61, Annual 175, Total 273
Katrina Overton reported that she will send reminders to all annuals, to renew.  Last year we
reached 300 members.

Scrip Report: Tricia Thomas will give formal report at the next meeting.  She did report that she
orders every 2 – 3 weeks.

Correspondence: Cathy Nelson reported that we received thanks from Cathy Moseley for 2
Camp Invention Scholarships from the summer, a thanks from Cathy Moseley for MS book fair
books, thanks from Lisa Kledzik for ES book fair “new teacher” books

Presidents Report:  PTSO website and email should be added to all fliers, with copies of fliers
emailed to Cathy for posting to the web.  District Bulletin “ads” should be sent to Cathy as well.

Sponsor Guidelines – Cathy met with June Losurdo to review sponsor benefits, the only thing that
was added was at the $500 and up level, we will recognize them on the PTSO bulletin board
Elementary School Tiles – no report this month, include on next months agenda
PTSO room is no longer designated that way, space was needed by school.  All PTSO supplies are
located in fan room, to the right.  EXCEPT Middle School supplies are located in closet still in the
room.
LansingStar.com gives $ .25 for each new registration, register this month!
Grand Friends Day 2005 status report – Cathy spoke with Elementary School principal and they
agreed to discuss this in the spring for next year.  Principal Carr agreed with teachers who
reiterated that there are other opportunities for grand parents to come to school and be involved.
501(c)(3) status – Cathy to continue to work on for this year.  She reported that there are many
confusing forms to be handled and a fee of $500.  CDC has this status, it was suggested that they
be contacted for advice.

Old Business
Bobcat Clothing order – no report, due date next Friday

Board of Education Dinner – Dorothy Debbie and Kendal Adams to work with Anne Drake to
confirm date in November.  Anne Miller and the King Ferry Hotel will cater.  Dorothy and Kendal will
determine if King Ferry Hotel donates portion and if so, ask amount so we can recognize their
donation.  Logo or business card will be needed in order to do that.

ES book fair- Trisha Firth reported Gross of $5,500, Net $3,872 and we took $1,000 in books
($500 for library, remainder for Buckley Bucks and new teacher books) with Profit of $1,700.
Cathy Nelson noticed decrease trend over the past few years in sales.  Trisha reported that we
only did 2 days of sales this Fall, in the past we did 3 days.  
Outcome/Decision: Recommended that we return to 3 days next year.
Trisha will prepare list of other recommendations.

Teachers reminded students about how stealing is not right. Only one incident reported.
General note about bookfair sales – with no Grand Friends day, Spring sales will be affected,
review plans for next years book fairs

MS Activity Night – no formal report, 156 students attended
MS Activity Night for November – CASS students will be invited to attend

Elementary School Picture Day – tomorrow, volunteers have been recruited, remember to send
names of volunteers to Cathy Nelson

New Business
Cookie Dough – Kendall Adams, Kay Thomas and Tricia Thomas reported that forms will go home
with students the first week of November.  No door to door sales noted on printed forms, next year
note that on cover sheet that we prepared.  Cookie sales by middle school was reported, but Anne
Drake commented that the dough was not as good.  Does not need refrigeration.
Cathy mentioned that she needs ad for district bulletin.

PTSO Special Program – Donna Prybyl and Lisa Farr handed out flyer regarding November 7
program entitled “TaxFree Saving for College…Through the New York State 529 Plan” presented
by Rick Prybyl and Rich Farr on Monday, November 7, 2005 at 7pm, Elementary School Library
Anne Drake to handle child care.  
Decision/Outcome: Cathy Nelson to confirm after school room.  Suggestions for advertising event
and increasing attendance:  5th grade parent email, announcement at ACE Program on October
22, Lansing Star, High School office approval to post in cafeteria and in hallway by pool & gym, MS
parent conferences.

Thanksgiving Feast – Kay Thomas and June Losurdo reported that volunteers being recruited at
this time.  Community library was suggested as another source of volunteers.

Other business
Connie Colbert planting bulbs this Sat., Oct. 15 at 1pm, any volunteers are welcome to join her.

SchoolMall.com – Cathy brought up this on line fundraiser vehicle, where people are asked to go
here and then go into their on line shopping, we receive money when people use it and when
people return postcards sent by students –
Decision/Outcome: It was decided NOT to be pursue, since in direct competition with our scrip
program that we are trying to expand and the worry that we would be presenting too many
fundraising activities at families.
