D. New Business:
a. High School Scholarship discussion – Amy Boardman, Anne Drake – Amy will look into if there is a
reason why $500 might be the maximum, by contacting our accountant. A committee will be formed to draft
some revisions to the scholarship criteria so that the PTSO is able to use at least the $3000 that is yearly ear
marked for scholarships. The committee will consist of: Amy Boardman, Donna Prybyl, Margaret Shackell-
Dowell, Cathy Nelson, Harriet Giannelis, possibly Bobbi Wasenko, and perhaps others. Discussion included
reducing class ranking requirement, changing PTSO parent membership requirement, expanding PTSO
volunteerism to just volunteerism, with perhaps very specific decision making process to strive to give all 6
scholarships to students.
b. Scrip status – Tricia Thomas – Bonnie Blair is helping Tricia. They placed largest order ever with
$11,000 in orders, resulted in a little over $600 in profit, based on 18 families ordering.
c. Winter fundraiser – Anne Drake, Walker Reynolds – Looking to ideas such as local business coupon
books, etc.
d. Parent’s University promotions- Nov. 12th 7pm @ High School Room 101 – PTSO will provide child care.
Mickie Grimm distributed a draft of a flyer for the program which Superintendent Dr. Grimm has arranged
which features Gary Metz and Dave Monk discussing “Drug Prevention through Education: What communities
and Families Don’t Know About Drugs and Alcohol, But Should!” The presentation is for adults only.
Unfortunately, it could only be scheduled on the 12th which is also the same night as one of the middle
school musical performances, but hopefully that won’t affect attendence. The presenters will also be doing an
assembly for the high school students and a presentation to faculty and staff.
e. MS Activity Night 5th/6th – Betsy Gavin, Gail Dennis - November 20th, 7-9pm, HS
